People who wear tattoos often choose their ink designs carefully to match their personalities, styles, and beliefs. People who opt for lion tattoos may do so because they want to show the world that they are strong and fearless or that they have overcome great adversity in their lives. Lions are respected as creatures who are at the top of the food chain and certainly are victorious in whatever fight in which they engage. Tattoos that depict lions likewise may reflect a person’s triumph and willingness to never back down from a fight.
However, male lions are also solitary creatures that usually live on the fringe of their prides. They do not extensively mingle with lionesses or cubs unless it is to procreate or to lay claim to a fresh kill. With that, a lion tattoo may refer to a person’s self-perceived loner status in society and his or her desire to separate from the rest of society.
In contrast, female lions are viewed as creatures who are cunning, protective, and assertive. Women who wear female lion tattoo designs may view themselves as protective mothers or wives or clever in a world that is traditionally dominated by patriarchal systems.
